Don’t let fluids ruin your trip

If you think cold winter weather is hard on you it sure is but it’s not much different for your car or truck. Without a little maintenance your car may not cooperate when you need to make that important meeting early one morning. So what can you do to make sure your automobile keeps running in these freezing cold temperatures? You have to keep on eye on your battery and the fluids. You want to make sure your coolant is mixed correctly. An auto mechanic can do that for you. Fluids in cold weather get thicker, especially your oil. You want to get lighter weight oil like a 10w30 in these temperatures. One of the most common problems is burning up your transmission when you’re spinning your wheels trying to take off in the snow. You should let your auto warm up for 5 minutes before you start moving so your engine and your fluids get warm. The fluids get sluggish and they need to have time to warm up and get circulating. Keep your gas tank at least half full. If you don’t that could lead to condensation which will cause ignition problems. Another good idea is to give your car a wash more frequently to wash of deicers and other chemicals used on roads.
